Thanks for looking into this and providing the pull request - it works
great for me.

It seems like sensible behavior to go into mainline SDL; any reason
not to send this pull request their way?

P.S. I applied this pull request to SDL in my Gentoo repository, if anyone
wants to just use that. 'njw' in layman.
