Okay; I've applied a modified version of Stephen's pull request to tip.

I've kept my changes fairly bare. I'm happy to port the drawing
code to draw.c (as in dmenu) if you like, which would fix a few
outstanding bugs present in both spacebed and dwm, but that's up to you
-- I don't want to make any unwelcome changes.
